Microfibrillation structure evolution and mechanical properties of MS@PMHNTs reinforced polymethyl methacrylate composite fiber

Polystyrene grafted halloysite microspheres (MS@PMHNTs) were prepared by suspension polymerization method, and the MS@PMHNTs reinforced polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) composite fibers in situ microfibrillation via a twin-screw extruder. The structure mechanical properties of MS@PMHNTs/PMMA characterized scanning electron microscopy, transmission Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy , thermogravimetric tensile tests, respectively. results show that torn, connected head-tail connecting to form high-aspect ratio microfibrils during shear-extrusion-drafting process. PMHNTs have existed with free orientation shearing process, while they oriented under traction force. can significantly improve toughness PMMA, MS@PMHNTs-5/PMMA has presented best among all fibers. • Microfibrillation mechanism polystyrene HNTs (MS@PMHNTs).
